Ava the Angel
Ava the Angel is a children's book that tells the story
of a happy and joyous angel named Ava. God sees
little Ava happily playing in a field of lilies and he asks
her to venture to earth to bless a family in need of a
child.

Author
The book was written by Allyson Ward Neal who grew
up in the Algiers community and whose family hails
from the area. On December 8, 2009, Amos and
Allyson Neal welcomed Ava Lillian Neal into their family.
Ava the Angel is a tribute to their daughter Ava and
features illustrations of the Neals.

Allyson obtained a bachelor of arts degree in
Journalism from Southern University and A & M
College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a master of
arts degree in communications from Washington
State University in Pullman, Washington.


Illustrator
The book was illustrated by Saran Bynum. Saran is
from New Orleans, home of gumbo, music and Mardi
Gras. She has received numerous awards from the
City of New Orleans, and has served on many panels
involving the arts, such as the New Orleans Jazz &
Heritage Festival, National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the
Essence Music Festival. Saran holds a degree in Fine
Arts and Business from Xavier University of Louisiana.
