The Algiers Revitalization Consortium (ARC) is a part of the Reaching Out nonprofit collective that works to improve the quality of life and economic opportunities in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. One of our main initiatives is our annual scholarship program that provides financial assistance to students from the Beautiful Zion Baptist Church of Algiers and other local students who are pursuing higher education.
Our scholarship program covers expenses such as books, dormitory supplies, and essentials for the students who are enrolled in accredited colleges or universities. We also offer monthly stipends to select students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and community involvement..
Our goal is to help our students achieve their educational and career aspirations and to give back to their community. One of our success stories is DaeShawn Armstead, who received our scholarship for the duration of his college career. DaeShawn graduated from Northwestern University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications. He is now working as an employee of a major corporation and exploring his passion in music, acting, filmmaking, script writing, and more. DaeShawn is an inspiration to us and to the young people of Algiers.
