Our Vision for Algiers

In the heart of Algiers, where history whispers through the streets and the Mississippi flows with potential, we envision a future that honors our rich past while paving the way for a vibrant, sustainable community. The Algiers Revitalization Consortium is committed to transforming Algiers into a beacon of cultural renaissance and economic prosperity.

Our Board

Allyson Ward Neal attended Algiers’ schools including Murray Henderson Elementary School, Martin Behrman Middle School and L.B. Landry High School. After graduating from high school, she went on to attend Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in print journalism. After receiving her B.A., Allyson attended the Edward R. Murrow School of Communications in Pullman, Washington where she received her Master of Arts degree in communications. Allyson has held positions with the Arts Council of New Orleans, the Amistad Research Center at Tulane University, Hewitt-Washington & Associates, Architects-Planners and Chevron Corporation. Her combined experience in nonprofit management, architecture and urban planning, and corporate make her a valuable member of the Board.

Amos P. Neal is a dedicated professional with a solid foundation in computer systems, rooted in his education from New Orleans schools and an Associate’s Degree from Philip’s Junior College. His expertise in the field has been honed through significant roles within the public transportation sector, including positions at the Regional Transit Authority of New Orleans and the Houston Metropolitan Authority. With a commitment to leveraging technology to improve urban transit systems, Amos has contributed to the efficiency and reliability of services that thousands rely on daily. His technical acumen and practical experience make him a valuable asset to the board focused on modernizing and enhancing public transportation and neighborhood infrastructure.

Lula Bocage Ward is an esteemed educator and historian with a remarkable 40-year tenure enriching the Algiers community. Her profound knowledge and dedication to Algiers’ history have led her to contribute significantly to two pivotal books on the subject: Algiers: The Untold Story and Algiers: The Untold Story of a New Orleans Treasure. Her extensive experience and deep roots in the community not only highlight her expertise but also establish her as an indispensable member of the Board, offering invaluable insights as a community expert. Her work continues to inspire and educate, bridging the past with the present and ensuring the stories of Algiers are told and treasured.
